The National Physicians Association of Zimbabwe (NaPAZ) represents the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACoP) in Zimbabwe. We work closely with ECSACOP when it comes to the identification and recruitment of training sites and trainers, curriculum design, accreditation and quality control.
Established in December 2015, the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP), is a regional college currently comprising of six countries namely; Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The college harmonises specialist physician training in internal medicine training across the region, establishing regional standards and ultimately improving health outcomes. The ECSACOP college curriculum encompasses key skills competency training that should meet the needs of a well-grounded and trained regional physician that will take care of local communities. The training is delivered through an in-service, apprenticeship model in existing regional health facilities.
ECSACoP’s focus on equipping physicians with the requisite skills to become effective teachers and leaders – as much as effective clinicians – will radically improve the management of health systems in the region. Its goals are to:
NaPAZ in collaboration with ECSACoP were proud to host the first ECSACOP Scientific Conference and AGM in 2016 in the majestic town on Victoria Falls. As we come full circle, we are pleased to share that we will once again be hosting the 8th Annual Scientific Conference and AGM in August this year.
The first accreditation of an ECSACoP training centre took place on 2 February 2018 at Zimbabwe’s Harare Central Hospital. In August 2022 we hosted the College in Harare for the ECSACOP FCP Part II Examinations, held once again at Harare Central Hospital.
